Eighth Army Ball

On Friday night we went to the Eighth Army's Ball for the Army's 239th birthday, held at the Grand Hyatt in Seoul.  Rob had to work for part of it, since various groups from the band were performing and supporting the ceremonial aspects of the evening - such as the brass group, pictured above.

We joined the crowd in the lobby during the cocktail hour and scanned the various displays highlighting the history of the army.

They also had a pretty cool ice sculpture on display for the event.  ;)

Here's a nice, blurry shot of Rob and the Eighth Army Band before the event started. They did a great job with the ceremonial portion, accompanying the historical accounting of the Army's campaigns and the placement of the corresponding ribbons on the Army flag.

Dinner was enjoyable and we each received some nice swag for attending - a birthday coin to add to our collection. The entertainment included an awesome Korean drill team - rifles and movements moving in perfect precision - and a short set by the band's rock band, "Seoul Food".

We did take a nice "prom" photo, but won't have that for a bit yet - so here's the one shot I have of us for now - we clean up pretty well.

Happy Birthday, Army!
