Tokyo - Day 3 - Disney Sea!

Day 3 - Tokyo Disney Sea

We had checked out the weather for the week and determined that Tuesday was going to be the "warmest" day for trekking around a Disney Park (as warm as you can expect for February!). Since our time in Tokyo was limited, we opted to visit only one park for one day and Disney Sea won out. We, of course, used the subway and it was just a little more crowded this day.

The ride took about 45 minutes, with two transfers, and then we were able to board the Disney monorail for the park.

The hand hold rings were very appropriately shaped.

We passed by Tokyo Disneyland on the way and I snapped a few pictures.

At Disney Sea, we got there right before the park opened and the crowd waiting was pretty large, so we waited in line and found our first photo op.

The prices weren't too bad.

Once we finally made it through the line, the fun started. From the following map, you can see it's a pretty big area and I'll tell you right now that we did not make it through the whole thing.

Right away we found Goofy, who was happy to give a hug.

We walked through the entry area and saw the Mediterranean Harbor.

We almost got run over by the marching band.

And then we nearly lost Michael to Stromboli's puppet show, care of a scheming fox and cat:

We strolled past the harbor and took cover when the volcano erupted (which made our little guy a bit worried about this trip):

The one ride I definitely wanted to go on was 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, as I've always been a Jules Verne fan - and we happened to find it right away.

We tossed in 100 yen for good luck (a pretty expensive wish, at around $1!).

We were to ride mini versions of the Nautilus and explore the depths. It was dark, so no photos came out, and the dialogue was in Japanese, but it was still pretty thrilling.

After the ride, we found some pretty nifty hats - woooooaaah.

While in Port Discovery we found the Incredibles hanging out:

And road the equivalent of automated water bumper cars.

It was very fun.  :)

Next, Michael found a Chipmunk - Chip, I think.

And then some orangutans...who liked his hat.

We visited the Lost River Delta, where Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull were lurking...

...and boarded the river boat cruise.

We found ourselves in the American Waterfront and took a rest by Columbus Circle.

Went past the NY Deli...

...and the Duffy and Shellie May restaurant. The story goes that Duffy is the name of the bear that Minnie gave to Mickey before a sea voyage, and Duffy merchandise is THE thing to get when at Tokyo Disney Sea- so much so, that there is a purchase limit to three items with the logo on a single day.

There were a number of vintage cars parked around the area for some more photo fun.

And a NY hot dog vendor...which is where we had lunch.

Considering our kiddos nerves with the volcano, we bypassed the Tower of Terror..

...and headed to the S.S. Columbia for some Turtle Talk with Crush from Finding Nemo.

While in line, we admired all the perfectly matching friends and couples. Here's just one example.  There were MANY more - it is a popular thing to do there, with matching clothes, hats, glasses, hairdos, shoes, bags...you name it!

No photos were allowed inside, but what I really which I had was a video. Crush, the sea turtle, appears on screen and actually talks to the audience members, with the help of some assistants in the audience. Even though it was all in Japanese, after a few people had a chance to go, Michael figured out that he should raise his hand really high and he got picked to talk to Crush. The microphone appeared before him and he boldly said, "Kello! Konnichiwa!" to the delight of the audience.

After that excitement (and making sure we pried the mic out of his hands), we ended up in the Toy Story Mania section.

We had some fun with the mirrors and games.

We were fortunate to catch the Mr. Potato Head show as we walked by.

Here's a fun video for you - "You've Got a Friend in Me"...sung in Japanese!

On our way out of the park, Michael's day was made - he got to meet Donald Duck.

Donald was a bit surprised when Michael decided to step on his foot (!?!).

But they made up.

And we had to have the obligatory picture in front of Walt and Mickey.

I also couldn't resist taking a picture of these two Disney park veteran's and their stash of small stuffed characters. In addition to the matching outfits, carrying around 40 pounds of Disney swag is all the rage at Tokyo Disney.

Then it was time to say goodbye for the day...

...which probably came a few minutes too late for a certain someone...

Our exciting finish to the day? Room service pizza and beer. We were on vacation, after all!  :)

Next up - Day 4...
